AB&I volunteers lend a helping hand at toy drive
December 12, 2018
Volunteers from AB&I spent time on Friday, December 7th lending a helping hand at Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s Toy Drive. Kristin from inside sales brought her mother and son to help out and Zeydi Gutierrez was joined by her son Oliver.
Families in the community signed up for toys in November and the toys will be distributed on December 15th. They complete a form outlining the age of the child and type of gift they would like, i.e., toys, books, puzzles, Lego’s, gift cards, etc. Last year, they were able to provide toys to over 8,000 children from low-income families. This included over 16,000 dolls, trucks, books, board games, sports equipment and gift certificates.
In a letter to AB&I Mayor Schaaf said, “I wanted to reach out to thank each of you for volunteering to help bag toys for Oakland families, during our first week of toy bagging. You came in with positive attitudes to help bag, stock, organize, pick up trash, break down boxes, and many other tasks to make our toy drive operations run like a well-oiled machine. Not only did you help bag toys for the majority of the 300 families that will receive toys at City Hall on December 15th, you helped bag hundreds of toys for other sites throughout Oakland that will be giving out toys to kids this holiday season. We couldn't have done it without you. We want to thank you for the bottom of our hearts for making this a happy Holiday Season for children across Oakland.”
AB&I team member Zeydi Gutierrez said, “We had fun doing it and felt like little kids again!”
