An oldie, but a goodie spotted in Salt Lake City, Utah
August 10, 2015
McWane Ductile-Utah (MDU) team members Nick Cleaver and Bob Arms recently spotted an old fire hydrant manufactured at MDU (formerly Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
MDU actually manufactured fire hydrants prior to 1982, but production was moved to another McWane facility in Alabama in 1980. The parts for these hydrants were manufactured in a special brass foundry, then they were cleaned up in finishing and they assembled in the valve and hydrant shop. McWane Ductile-Utah now produces strong and durable ductile iron pipe.
Safety Technician and 40 year MDU veteran Gary Wood was around during that time and was glad to assist us with the history of the hydrant production at MDU. Thanks Gary
