Atlantic States Holds Penny Wars in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness
November 3, 2014

During the week of October 27-31, Atlantic States held a Penny War Contest to raise money for breast cancer research. The team that had the most pennies in their jar at the end of the competition would be declared the winner.
The teams included:
Team 1: Casting, Environmental and Dale Schmelzle
Team 2: Melting, Safety, Engineering and Dan Fittro
Team 3: Finishing, Sales and Jason Trimmer
Team 4: Shipping, Mold shop and Storeroom, IT
Team 5: Maintenance, Quality and Accounting
The rules were as follows:
Pennies count as one cent each. Silver coins and paper money, including checks, count against the team. Teams had to subtract 5 cents for every nickel, 25 cents for every quarter, 100 cents for every $1 dollar bill and 500 cents for every $5 bill. Teams donated pennies to their own jars and to make things interesting teams could bomb their competitors’ jars by placing nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills in their jars. There was no limit to the number of times a person could donate to any of the jars.
At the end of the competition, the HR department added up the donations and we are proud to announce that the winning team was Team 2 and the total amount collected from all five teams was $458. The money raised will be sent to the Susan G Komen Foundation. Thanks to everyone for participating in the 2014 Atlantic States Breast Cancer Awareness Penny Wars and congratulations to Team 2 for winning the event!
